Dealing With Loss

Dealing With Loss

A family needs love and compassion to face and overcome the unique set of challenges that accompany the death of a loved one. Manasan Law Group understands this and therefore provides a full-service approach to probate or trust administration.

Our objective during this difficult time is to minimize headaches, transfer assets as quickly as possible, ensure that the right choices are made at every crossroad and see to it that all legal requirements are satisfied within their legal deadlines.

We begin by preparing a comprehensive trust administration memorandum that instructs the successor trustee for his or her duties as the new trustee. We stand ready to assist the family in every way to resolve property transfers and other loose ends that can exist after a death.

We especially seek to bring families together and stand with them through a crisis that can often pull a family apart.

Solutions for All Families

Solutions for All Families

We hope that trustees, executors and beneficiaries will always see eye to eye but we know that is not always the case. If a problem should arise, however, we are able to solve conflicts by opening lines of communication, even if they have been closed for many years.

Some litigators perpetuate family discord but we strive to resolve any and all family conflict. We use our substantial creative skills to design plans that address all of the concerns of conflicting family members.

Whenever possible, we create estate plans that are designed to address any potential conflict before it arises. For example, in any blended family – such as a second marriage situation – there is often a potential for conflict between the second spouse and the children from a prior marriage. We take this into account when planning and prepare accordingly to avert any such conflict.

Protect What You Love

One of the most significant concerns parents can have is whether their children will be prepared to receive wealth and to use it to make a positive impact in the world. One of the best ways to prepare children for the receipt of wealth is to involve them in giving to the community around them.

Read one family’s story of “Building Family Unity Through Giving: The Story of the Namaste Foundation” By Deanne Stone, 1992, 38 pages

How do parents teach their children to manage and use money wisely? That was a question that Bob and Wendy Graham asked themselves in raising their six children. Their task was complicated by the fact that theirs was a blended family. Bob and Wendy each had three each from their first marriages, and the two sets of children had grown up in very different environments. Moreover, at the time, the children ranged in age from 15 to 30 and they lived on different coasts. Bob and Wendy wanted to give their children a sound financial education, but they wanted to do it in a way that built strong and lasting family ties. To meet those ends, they devised a three-pronged plan that emphasized emotional and spiritual growth, hands-on investment experience, and community involvement. By balancing independent and shared learning activities, the Grahams taught their children far more than how to handle money. They learned important lessons about themselves and how to work together as a family. First published in 1992, Building Family Unity Through Giving has provided parents around the country with ideas and inspiration for educating their own children about money management and social responsibility.

Bob and Wendy’s story inspired me to use the principles and programs they put in place for their family as a foundation to create similar programs for my clients who also want to give their children a sound financial education in a manner that incorporates emotional and spiritual growth, hands-on investment experience, and community involvement.
